The theory section of the Recreational Skippers Ticket is based on the Recreational Skippers Ticket Workbook supplied free from the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, most tackle and boat shops and country Post Offices.

The Recreational Skippers Ticket Workbook has been designed for self study in mind with self test questions at the end of every chapter. The theory assessment is a 30 question multiple choice test where the pass rate is 24 correct or better. You get one hour to complete the test but most people finish in less than half an hour.
