Got your RST but have had the boat in the driveway or the shed for awhile? Like to brush up on your skills before you head off out to sea?
Then our refresher course will get your skills up to speed and your confidence where it should be prior to getting out on the water.
The day starts and ends on the water, the only classroom today is the boat. We go over a trip plan with the relevant chart prior to course familiarising everyone with the planned route. This is usually done at the ramp or on the vessel prior to departure.
Our refresher course contains the bulk of your practical that you completed when you did your RST (see practical page for full list) along with a couple of other tasks.
We decided to add anchoring in the refresher course as we get alot of questions relating to this on our RST courses. Our trainer will demonstrate the corect anchoring technique for the conditions of the day, which will then be followed by all students practising task until task is done correctly.
On the training boat we also cover relevant IALA bouyage markers in the area and why they are there in the first place.
You also get an experienced master mariner to ask any questions that have been nagging away at you.
Course cost is $110 and lasts approximately 3 hours.
These small convoys are designed to familiarise skippers with areas of our vast and sometimes treacherous coastline.
Convoy starts off with a weeknight trip planning session where the Skipper from each vessel must attend.
We then meet at designated boat ramp 5 minutes apart to avoid congestion to begin the day.
Our skippers are experts on the local waters they then pass on their years of valuable local knowledge of the area to you. Do not underestimate how valuable this knowledge is.
These convoys will commence in October.
- Rockingham to Mandurah convoy
- Mandurah to Murray River Convoy
- Swan River night convoy
- Mindarie to Hillarys Convoy
